Who
can
hear “Taps”—
the bugle’s
solemn, drawn-out notes—
and not feel tears come to their eyes,
not have their hearts swell,
not shiver
or sigh?
Not
I.
My dad served in the U.S. Navy as a submariner, and “Taps” was played at the cemetery. Prayers for all who have served or are serving in the military. Peace to all ♥s!
As I age, I get more and more sentimental. The internet doesn’t help, with their heart-rending videos.
So true, Judy.
Yes, the taps always get to me, too.
Beautiful poem. My Grandfathers both served – one in WWI in the cavalry and then the medical corp. and the other as a supply sergeant in WWII. I was fortunate that neither lost their lives… Today I remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Thank you, Muri. So many lives lost….
