Hunting the Stag

~after Robert Frost

In the
hart’s woods
there are
long lovely
passages, dark-
leaved and
shadow-deep.

In the
leafy woods
hunters are
biding, unlovely
men, dark-
eyed and
hidden deep.

In the
green woods
hounds are
baying. Lovely
hart! Dark-
hearted band!
Shadowy deep!

This is my second poem for Monty Vern’s Golden Shovel poetry collaboration, and I tried for a minimalist narrative. In each stanza, the last words of each line, in order, read “The woods are lovely, dark, and deep” from Robert Frost’s “Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening.” Peace to your !

Oh wow!!! This is amazing! I love that you were able to take the line three ways with such natural fluidity. Bravo!

I’m not sure if my previous comment went through as I had some connectivity issues (a constant challenge when living in China) . Anyway…. WOW! This is amazing. I love how you were able to use the line three ways with such natural fluidity. It’s brilliant. Bravo!

I love being able to connect with poets in other countries. There are some downsides to technology, but this is definitely one of the perks. All the best to you there.

Agree! It’s so much easier to live “far away” now that there is tech to make connections.
